S P R I N G 2 0 1 8 – Morning Skincare

I though it was time I do a post about my morning skincare as I said I would be doing one a couple of weeks ago in my Good Morning Habits post. I have been following this routine since the middle of January so almost 3 months. I didn’t want to write this any sooner as I wanted to make sure the products worked over a longer period of time and that I actually stick to using them. A couple I have had since before January and they are staple but a few I started using when I wrote my New Products post, nevertheless, they are all definite staples in my routine now and they all contribute to keeping my skin in the condition it’s currently in.

Step 1: Cleanse

I always cleanse my skin in the morning and the Medik8 Pore Cleanse Gel has been doing the job for me since I first purchased it in January. This stuff is a professional grade cleanser with AHA and BHA acids in (these chemically exfoliate the skin). I have always had congested skin so using this in the mornings makes me feel that little bit more awake and refreshed. It has also helped with under the skin bumps on and around my nose and the congestion in those areas too.

Step 2: Toner

A long time staple for me: the Pixi Glow Tonic. Do I need to say much more about this? I first wrote about this in a favourites post in May 2016 – that’s nearly two years I have used it! Do you need anything else to persuade you to use this?

Step 3: Serums

I’d say my skin is fairly dehydrated but gets congested and oily very easily. For this reason I use two serums after the pix glow tonic both from The Ordinary. The first is their Hyaluronic acid which I started using in July last year. I am currently on my third bottle of the stuff as I will cover my face in the stuff and it has been a blessing. I have noticed my skin doesn’t feel as tight after cleansing anymore and generally seems happy as long as I keep using this. The second is Nicinamide which I started using in December, focussing this on my nose, the surrounding area, my chin and forehead. I am on my second bottle of this and will need to repurchase it soon. I have never been one to have dramatic breakouts (except during A levels – thank you teenage skin) but I do get the odd 1-3 due to hormones or stress. Since using this I have not had a single break out which is honestly amazing! The only acceptation is when I didn’t use it for about 4 days and I could notice straight away how congested the pores on my nose were and I got a small breakout. This is just proof to me that this little bottle does wonders and if you don’t believe me, try it for yourself.

Step 4: Oil OR Moisturiser 

The final step in my morning skincare is either the Clarins Blue Orchid face oil for dehydrated skin or my Eve Lom Rescue Oil Free Moisturiser. Both of these I purchased around christmas and have been using since January – depending on how my skin is feeling that day. As the moisturiser is free of oils, silicones and dimethicones it won’t clog pores however it won’t really do much for insanely dry skin. I use this on days when my skin doesn’t seem tight but I want to add something more than just some serums. On the days when my skin needs more help I’ll swap this for the Clarins oil – putting about 3 drops in the palm of my hand and applying that over the face and neck. I’ve found this amount isn’t too much that it leaves you looking like an oily mess but just enough to cover your skin. This stuff really helps my cheeks especially but doesn’t leave my t-zone looking oily either.
