December Favourites 2017

And just like that it’s the last week of the year. If you want to have a quick look back at everything that happened in 2017 you can find it here but today I wanted to share with you my favourite things from the last month of the year.

Pixi Glow Tonic

Another skincare favourite this month, and many months before is the pix glow tonic – an exfoliating toner containing 5% glycolic acid. I am now on my 3rd bottle of this and, even though I tried this Aveda toner for a while and, whilst I really enjoyed using it, the price tag on that compared to the results is nothing compared to pixi glow tonic which has more in the bottle and is £10 cheaper. I use this product twice a day after cleansing and all I do with it is pour a bit onto the palm of my hand, rub my palms together and apply it all over my face and neck. This product is also very gentle and is great for most skin types. I’ve recommended it to a lot of friends with varying skin types and they all love it too!

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

This product is amazing! I honestly can’t say anything bad about it. I have spoken about this brand before and niacinamide is my most recent purchase from them. On their website, The Ordinary describe this product as follows:

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is indicated to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. A high 10% concentration of this vitamin is supported in the formula by zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid to balance visible aspects of sebum activity.

I can say this is all true. I bought this product after hearing claims about it helping with congestion and that’s the main reason I got it, that and to help with some scars I have from blemishes a couple of years back. I can see a difference from using this, the scars are less noticeable and build up in my pores is almost unnoticeable (unless I look really closely). I feel like after using this a little longer, this product is going to be a life saver. I use this twice a day after the toner and can’t go a day without it now.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser

I buy and try so many primers I lose count but there is always one fail safe primer I come back to and it is this. Another very affordable product, this is great at smoothing and mattifying the skin – two things I need to do to the skin on and around my nose. I don’t get that many blemishes but when I do this is again something I will go to straight away.

Topshop Ankle Boots

I bought these boots back in September when I visited my friend Ellie in Bath as I didn’t have any cute ankle boots and I am in love. Sadly they don’t sell them anymore but I found a couple of similar pairs (1 & 2) . They’re great for a night out if you don’t wanna wear heels, drinks with the girls or they do a great job of dressing up a casual outfit. I love how the buckle detailing add another texture to the boot and the heel isn’t too high.

Music

At the end of every year, Spotify compiles a playlist of the songs your account has played the most over the course of the year. On my drive back from uni I played it and I heard some songs that I hadn’t listened to for quite a few months and it definitely made me that person you see in the car next to you belting songs at the top of their voice.

Other music I have been loving specifically in the past month is on the playlist below.

Instagram

As you probably know, I’m obsessed with Instagram. A couple of months ago I started a new profile that focusses on my writing and writing blog but on my personal profile I still have my favourite profiles that never fail to inspire my own photos. sunbeamsjess | inthefrow | wonderlustcollectivemissmmeeke | are profiles I always love but recently I have been loving r.h.sin, els_hardyphotos,  xoxothemag and hellooctoberathome.

Bath and Body Works Winter Candle

This candle has been burning in my living room constantly releasing notes of white woods, pine needles, sparkling clementine and spiced clove. I’ve never really been one for christmassy candles but this one has such a subtle yet gorgeous scent that I don’t want it to burn down! It’s also on sale at the moment on the bath and body works website so why not get two for one?

You Get Me

One film I’ve watched a fair few times this month on netflix is You Get Me, a thriller staring Bella Thorne. Below is how netflix describes it:

After a one-night stand, Holly develops a dangerous obsession with Tyler and transfers to his high school, desperate to keep their “romance” alive.

The thing I really like about this film is I could watch it over and over again without getting bored. It also had a really good soundtrack to go along with it. If you’re looking for a film to watch that won’t leave you confused constantly, or feeling completely alone, watch this!

Nerve by Jeanne Ryan

I saw the film ages ago and bought the book after. Finally this month I got around to reading it and couldn’t put it down! I finished it in 2 days and really enjoyed it. I feel like it’s completely incomparable to the film as the story lines are so different. I feel like I read it so quickly as I wanted to see what would happen at the end. Honestly, the end wasn’t great and it felt really rushed but the story as a whole was great and I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a quick read.

What have been your favourites this month?
