I am finally finished!
All my assignments have been handed in and I’m ready to enjoy christmas. I’m currently writing this whilst in bed with a christmas Starbucks, catching up on youtube and am planning some posts for the next few months. The past couple of months have flown by so fast and I’ve been struggling to find the time to blog which I feel so bad about as it’s one of the things that keeps me sane. But now I’m going to try and change and with a lot of things planned for December and the New Year I have lots of ideas to keep me going.
So anyway, back to the point of this post, a catch up on university.
Deadlines have been intense but I managed to spread myself between all my assignments pretty well which I’m quite happy with and I’ve been trying to film most days with everything that has been happening this term which makes me so happy looking back at it all. I have also been asked what Creative Writing is about and what kind of things I have to do so I’m going to try and explain all of that now.
I have had 3 modules this semester and next semester I have another 3. The 6 in total add up to my final grade in first year. The first module that I have just finished is Craft of Writing. This was basically looking at different forms of writing and then the assignment was made up of a creative piece in which I was given a brief, and then I had to also write a reflective piece on my writing. The second was called Reading as a Writer where I had two assignments – one involved a critical analysis of a book we had been given. This was definitely my least favourite assignment as I hated the book I had to write about. The other assignment for this module was looking at techniques used in different books and writing in the same way as certain authors or re-writing sections of novels in a different form. These authors included George RR Martin, Patrick Ness and Max Porter. It was really interesting experimenting with different writing styles and this was probably my favourite assignment to do. My final module was called Writing Toolkit and I had to write a portfolio of work for this assignment. This included an academic essay on the novel Gone Girl, a biography, a piece of writing without adjectives or adverbs and finally a piece using neologisms (making up words and putting them in a creative piece).
That is pretty much everything about my course. Outside of this I am part of the kayaking society so have been doing that which is really fun and takes me away from worrying about work. I also joined the gym and have been trying to go 4 times a week which can get quite tricky when I’m drowning in work. I went to see Frank Turner in Exeter last week too which was amazing – this was the fourth time I had seen him live and he never fails to put on a great show. Felix Hagan and the Family were supporting and I have been obsessed with their songs ever since.
That’s about it for now, I’m headed back home on Friday and then on Saturday I’m off to Amsterdam which I am really excited about, I’m going with my best friend Shelley who I haven’t seen properly since coming to uni so it’ll be great seeing her. I also have a lot of trips planned for the start of next year so I’m thinking of doing travel vlogs as well as blog posts about them.
It has been such a crazy 3 months I cannot wait to be home with my dogs and sit by the fire.
What are you looking forward to the most about christmas?
