Digital Detox

Having a detox is always a good idea. Especially when it comes to our beloved digital devices. As a blogger I find I am always on my phone, whether it be on social media, planning blog posts or just messaging friends. But sometimes we all need a break from our phones and here are some simple ways to do it:

Bedtime Ban Set yourself a time limit as to how long before you sleep you can be on your phone and laptop. I’d suggest at least 30 minutes as this will enable your brain to shut off and mentally prepare you for sleep. Maybe spend this time reading a new book, you can check out my list of books to read in 2016 here.

Dinner Detox This one is especially crucial if you are with family or friends. You’re having dinner and spending time with them, not instagram so put your phone away and enjoy the meal and the company you have with you.

Holiday Happiness When away on holiday all you want to do is relax. But you won’t be able to do this until you forget about your work and any deadlines that may be putting weight on your shoulders. So keep your phone in the hotel room or, if you want it to take photos, put in on aeroplane mode and feel that weight lift.

No Notifications This is an easy one and can be used all the time. Simply turn off notifications for the majority of your apps. I do this and have found I am on my phone considerably less. Now the only notifications I get are messages, whatsapp, instagram, wordpress and my email. That may seem like a lot but turning your phone on silent will also help this.

What are your tips for getting away from you electronics?
