Summer Hopefuls

Every summer I say the same thing – “This year Jessica you will read a lot.” And every year it fizzles out by the start of the new school year and I end up having only read one book, if that! But this year has already been different, 1 week into the holidays and I’ve read 2 books (Brave New World and The Book Thief – both massive recommendations from me)

In order to actually read the books I plan to read, I have place them on my desk as I spend most of my time here. I’m going to start from the bottom up as the first is The Book Thief which I have just finished. A novel by Markus Zusak and set in Nazi Germany, this book depicts the life of Liesel and mainly her time on Himmel Street and the relationship with her foster parents after her parents are taken to a concentration camp, her relationship with a Jew who is hidden in her basement, and her relationship with death. I won’t say any more than that.

The Goldfinch is a book I bought yesterday but it has been on my ‘to-read’ list for AGES! It is told from the point of Theo who recounts his life so far. I can’t tell you much more than that as I haven’t read any yet but believe me, when I’ve finished there will be a review.

The Lemon Grove, another book I bought yesterday, I had heard many good things about, as I had with the Shatter Me trilogy (with 2 other novellas). This trilogy is a dystopian thriller narrated by Juliette, a 17 year old with a paralysing and killing touch.

Finally My Life Next Door, probably the most ‘summer-girly-type-read’ here. A full on romance, so much cheese, Romeo and Juliet type thing, the kind of book you can finish in a day, that kind of book. But come on, you need to read one of those books during the summer!

Well that is it for my Summer hopefuls, have you read any of these books? Tell me what you thought.

Jess xx
